Its currently priced at 3 and I think its worth a look. No, I just used them to highlight that your very restricted definition of what "should" be in a strategy war game doesn't really leave room for much, including the "grandparents" of the modern games.Īs for the petty name calling, it doesn't do you any favours or make your argument more persuasive. This is a short, montage based look at the newly released Blood and Gore DLC for Rome II Total War. The fact you just compared what i said to Chess and Risk makes you exactly that. Ultimately it's a matter of personal preference whether you want blood & gore or not, and by doing it this way we both get to play the way we want, and only those that actually incur extra costs pay for those costs. Realistic blood & gore has only been possible in recent years, but modern games can trace their ancestry back hundreds, or even thousands of years. If blood & gore was a requirement for a strategy war game to be released we would have no Total War, nor any other RTS or TBS, because we would have no Chess, no Go, no Risk etc. Total War games fall somewhere in between, and in doing so appeal to a wide variety of players. Strategy games and war games portray war in a wide variety of ways, from the abstract to the brutally realistic. Beheading is super rare and unless you keep searching for it you will never see it. If you dont keep looking at the very same spot all the time the blood vanishes after a while. By selling the dlc separating they bypass the user rating and are able to keep it at T, thus getting more sales. You have to move your camera to a spot were your soldiers are fighting and stay there for a few seconds. Employing a more refined particle system than Shogun 2, Blood & Gore for ROME II looks and feels grittier and more brutal. The only reason CA does this, is because then they can rate the game T instead of M. Featuring hundreds of gruesome animations that play out in combat between multiple different unit types, the massed battles of Total War: ROME II will never be the same again. Originally posted by Grubbs008:Yes it is worth it, because any game about battles and realism without blood and gore shouldn't be released If they had added it as a graphics option and not as DLC, then they could have offered an additional "Even More Gore" DLC for the hardgore lovers with the kind of spectacular effects described above. It's that kind of spectacular (and authentic) gore they should have added.Īs it is, it's all rather tame and sanitised so don't expect much. Same with siege battles - the walls should actually be dripping with blood on both sides. The river should have been blood red, even staining the shore and clogged up with bodies and human remains. WATCH IN HD Decapitation 0:58 (Left of screen)A compilation of my my first couple of tests of the new Shogun 2 Blood DLC.Its awesome'Decapitation and Li. ![]() When I fought a river battle there were bodies piling up on the bridge, but not a single drop of blood in the water let alone a dead body. ![]() It truly is quite brilliant with decapitations and Spartacus like fountains of blood. I agree it really should have been made available as a graphics option not a DLC. CA released the brutal new blood and gore pack for Rome II. Of course you only get the full benefit when you zoom in, which can be difficult in battles. It adds a bit of colour and cosmetic realism to battles as well as assassinations on the strategy map so does bring a certain violent drama to the action. It’s lame that it doesn’t come in game as an option like any other game but what can you do. Originally posted by Abu Hajaar:If you care about the theatrics of your battles like I do then yes. ![]()
